Why We're Here

We are passionate about moving past stereotypes to be the hands and feet of Christ. It is incredible to see youth, families, and young adults alike begin to digest concepts of humility, courage, and perseverance through an outdoor adventure and experiential education context rooted in a Christian worldview. We also love seeing summer staff and staff step into leadership positions and lead others.

Background

Caleb grew up in Eastern Washington and was first introduced to the outdoors through his youth pastor. His experiences backpacking in Idaho and Oregon expanded his perspective on how both rest and challenge can bring people into closer relationships with God. In college, he was a student at Prairie Bible College’s Explore program, which partnered with Camp Bighorn at the time. Here, he was able to develop his outdoor skills. Later, he came on staff in 2008, launching an at-risk youth program–Venture–at Bighorn. Caleb loves white water kayaking, camping, hiking, and hanging out with his family.

Also growing up in Washington, Jen first came to Bighorn in 2006 as a youth group leader. She was impressed to see how the ropes course could be facilitated for deep connection and growth. This experience led her to join staff later that year. Jen is an introvert who enjoys watching people be challenged through the outdoors. She loves to connect with others in a small group or individual context. Caleb and Jen met each other at Bighorn!
