Two Bighorn staff members will lead your family through every adventure, tailoring challenge levels and ensuring safety for all ages. Choose one of four available expedition packages: The Bighorn Classic, Rock Climbing, Backpacking, and River Trip.

The Bighorn Classic
For those who love variety, this expedition package gives you the opportunity to try a little bit of all the classics offered at Camp Bighorn. Your days will be spent out on the water, climbing up rock faces, and navigating ropes courses in the trees. We're talking paddle boards, team building challenges, food famously prepared by the camp chef, and climbing routes with views stretching through valleys in the Lolo National Forest.In an effort to keep all guests healthy, The Bighorn Classic will be limited to a maximum of two families per week.
Arrive at Camp Bighorn between 2pm and 4pm on the Monday of your expedition. Families will sleep in on-site cabins at Camp Bighorn for the entire reservation, with plenty of respectful distance kept between groups if another family happens to register for The Bighorn Classic during the same week. Total reservations are limited to four families per week. These are on a first come, first serve basis, so register early to secure your preferred expedition package!
It can be hard to get started with rock climbing, and this trip is designed to help families learn the essentials before investing in expensive equipment. Families will be instructed by experienced Bighorn staff members while spending their time climbing along the US-Canada border in the Kootenai National Forest.
Once inside the Kootenai National Forest, the Stone Hill climbing area offers a good range of easy to moderate climbing routes, along with hiking trails and opportunities to paddle board or canoe on nearby Lake Koocanusa.
Arrive at Camp Bighorn between 2pm and 4pm on the Monday of your expedition. Families will sleep at Camp Bighorn Monday night, departing for the Stone Hill Climbing area Tuesday morning, camping in the Kootenai National Forest until the last day of your reservation.
Lace up your boots and get ready to hike, cook, and camp in the Montana backcountry! Families are encouraged to bring their own gear, but most equipment can be provided. The hiking difficulty will be adjusted to suit each family's experience level, so parents can rest assured that their family will be able to make the journey. Bighorn staff members will trek alongside you, sharing seasoned advice while leading the way to beautiful views and empowerment for future family backpacking plans.
Note: Some gear items are available, but supplies are limited. Items available include headlamps, mugs, plates, utensils, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, tenting, shell jacket, mid-weight base layers, and backpacks. These items will be included in the trip cost. Due to sizing; however, backpacks are only available for hikers ages 10+ (approximately). A detailed packing list will be provided after registration, but can be shared prior to registration by request. Please use the Contact page for requests and/or to reserve items for your expedition.
Arrive at Camp Bighorn between 2pm and 4pm on the Monday of your expedition. Families will sleep at Camp Bighorn Monday night, departing for the trailhead early Tuesday morning, backpacking until the last day of your reservation.
Select either a raft or canoe for this multi-day river expedition! Families will float down the famous Clark Fork River, making camp and cooking meals along the way. This trip delivers moments of rest, play, and the occasional white water rapid. Experienced Bighorn staff members will teach river navigation, share helpful techniques, and provide a camping experience your family will remember for years to come.
Arrive at Camp Bighorn between 2pm and 4pm on the Monday of your expedition. Families will sleep at Camp Bighorn Monday night, departing for the river put-in location Tuesday morning and returning on the last day of your reservation.
