The Assistant Cook gets the opportunity to serve our guests delicious meals and invest in the lives of our volunteer kitchen staff. The Assistant Cook assists the Food Services Director with food preparation, cooking, and cleaning duties. Once training has been completed, the Assistant Cook may be asked to step-in as the head cook during the Food Services Director's absence. This position is needed full-time, but part-time and volunteer availability will also be considered.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Ability and desire to volunteer in a camp setting
- Good character, integrity, ability and enthusiasm
- Multi-task oriented, energetic, organized, and self motivated
- Ability to work with various personalities
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Read and write in English and do basic math including fractions
- Strong interpersonal communication and conflict resolution skills
- Previous food service experience or noted interest in home cooking is desired
- Ability to work long (10-15 hour) shifts, stand for long periods of time, work in hot environment, and lift/carry at least 40 pounds for a distance of 50 feet
- Willing to obtain ServSafe certification



POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

- Food preparation, cooking, kitchen clean up, and dishwashing
- Assist Food Services Director in maintaining food and supplies
- Assist with food orders
- Cook meals independently, as needed
- Lead other staff through the entire meal preparation process
- Plan meals occasionally
- Find, read, and adjust recipes, as necessary



GENERAL CAMP BIGHORN RESPONSIBILITIES

As a member of the Bighorn Community you will be expected to:

- Engage in regular times of Scripture reading and prayer
- Regularly and actively attend staff connection meeting
- Relationship is a vital aspect of our community and ministry at Camp Bighorn. As a member of the staff you will be expected to invest in relationships with the staff, campers, students, and interns
- Participate in staff trainings and staff retreats
- Assist other branches by helping with turnaround, dishes, kitchen help, retreat hosting, programming for retreats, etc
- Assist in driving when possible
- Raise the amount decided on for your salary by seeking out churches, organizations, and individuals willing to partner with you in ministry
- Submit to the leadership of the Executive Director and the Branch Director team
