Why We're Here
God led us to ministry at Bighorn as we committed to following Him with open hands. He made it clear that this is where we should be and we are so thankful to reach others with the Good News of Jesus Christ. We believe in the character growth and discipleship that happens here, and greatly value how adventures, wilderness and activities are "unpacked" and applied to peoples' lives.Give to the Silvas
Rob was born and raised in northwest Washington. He settled down there, started a family with Kendra and then began a career in oil refinery that lasted 11 years. Kendra now works alongside Rob, but before coming to Bighorn, she was a stay at home mom and spent time babysitting for friends and family. They have always loved the outdoors, and after coming to faith at 20 years old, Rob became passionate about youth ministry. He never thought his love of the outdoors would collide with youth ministry, until God moved in huge and unexpected ways and opened doors for their family to be at Bighorn.
Rob and Kendra knew the previous Food Services Directors, and after hearing about an opening in the kitchen, they thought, "Hey, that's something we could do!" Their experience feeding a family of six developed fundamental skills that they now use on a much larger scale. As the Food Services Directors at Camp Bighorn, they care for every guest, staff member and adventurer.
Rob - "Many people are mystified by my strangely flexible thumbs but I have always been grateful that God has made me this way and consider them a great advantage."
Kendra - "I can lick my elbow. Also, I sometimes like to eat dessert for breakfast."
We have four children: Aiden who loves to tag along on any adventure; Kylie who loves being with friends and making new ones and also loves adventuring; Isaiah who loves people, building and creating, and rock climbing; and Rhett, who loves being with mom and dad, helping in the kitchen, and playing with friends.
